Speed reduction on Groß-Gerauer Straße
A speed limit of 30 km/h is now in effect in the area around the Wolfskehlen primary school. As the city of Riedstadt announced, Mayor Marcus Kretschmann, in his capacity as the road traffic authority, issued the corresponding order for Groß-Gerauer Straße.
New 30 km/h speed limit signs near the primary school indicate the changed speed limit. The aim of the measure is to increase road safety, especially for children.
Technical review and statement by the police
Speed reductions within city limits cannot be implemented solely through a political decision. They are ordered exclusively by the mayor, as the responsible road traffic authority, following expert assessment and a positive statement from the police.
Since the speed limit within city limits is generally 50 km/h, any reduction must be specifically justified. In the case of Groß-Gerauer Straße, this is a sensitive section of road: besides the primary school, there is a pedestrian traffic light, two bus stops, and the Wolfskehl cemetery.
Further measures are being planned
The 30 km/h speed limit in Wolfskehlen is part of a broader effort to reduce speeds within towns and villages where legally permissible and technically necessary. Implementation of the noise action plan for Erfelden was initiated as early as 2025.
A speed limit reduction to 30 km/h is also planned for the entire length of Wilhelm-Leuschner-Straße in Erfelden. This measure can be implemented as soon as a positive statement is received from the Groß-Gerau district.
