The "One more item" campaign in front of the supermarket was a complete success
On Saturday (August 9th), the Leo Club Darmstadt and the Lions Club Darmstadt-Castrum held a fundraising event in front of the tegut supermarket on Kasinostraße, sending a strong message of solidarity. Under the motto "One more item," volunteers asked customers to add an extra product – such as pasta, canned stews, or hygiene items – to their shopping carts and then donate it to the Darmstadt tea room.
The result was impressive: Boxes full of non-perishable food and hygiene products were collected throughout the day and delivered to the tea room that same evening. There, the residents were overjoyed. The Diakonie facility is an important resource for homeless people, offering counseling, hot meals, washing and showering facilities, and social support .
“We are thrilled by how many Darmstadt residents spontaneously participated. This shows that a sense of community is alive and well in our city,” said the organizers.
