The German Polish Institute commemorates an important Polish lyric poet
To mark the fifth anniversary of the death of Polish poet Adam Zagajewski, the German-Polish Institute in Darmstadt invites you to a reading and discussion. The event will take place on March 24, 2026, at the Darmstadt Palace.
Remembering a great lyric poet
Adam Zagajewski is one of Poland's most important lyric poets. Born in Lviv, he gained international renown for his passionately melancholic descriptions of the world. He died on March 21, 2021, in Krakow.
Reading and discussion at the Residenz Palace
In the Karl Dedecius Hall of the German Polish Institute, translator Renate Schmidgall and DPI Director Peter Oliver Loew will discuss the work and personality of Zagajewski. In addition to the discussion, selected poems will be read.
Renate Schmidgall has been translating Polish prose and poetry into German for several decades. She has been awarded the Karl Dedecius Prize and is also a poet herself.
Peter Oliver Loew is a historian, translator and director of the German Polish Institute.
