Commitment to climate justice, food security and sustainable development in the Global South
Weiterstadt/Belém. From November 10 to 21, 2025, ADRA Germany will in the COP30 World Climate Conference in Belém, Brazil . Together with international partner organizations, ADRA will advocate for climate justice , sustainable development , and the protection of particularly affected communities in the Global South. The goal is to contribute concrete experience from development cooperation to global climate policy.
“Climate change, poverty, and inequality threaten millions of people worldwide. We want their perspectives to be heard in international climate policy,” the aid organization emphasizes. ADRA is part of a global network of over 119 offices with decades of experience in humanitarian aid and development work.
ADRA's topics and demands at COP30
- Community-led climate adaptation: Local actors must be at the heart of adaptation measures. Only with their knowledge can sustainable solutions be developed.
- Reliable financing: The international Loss & Damage fund should be transparent and easily accessible – also for civil society organizations and indigenous communities.
- Protection of land and human rights: Climate protection must not lead to land loss or exclusion. ADRA demands participation in all climate and nature conservation measures.
- Ambitious climate targets: National climate strategies should be bindingly aligned with the 1.5-degree target, and the phase-out of fossil fuels should be designed in a socially just manner.
- Food security and regenerative agriculture: ADRA supports projects that improve soil health, biodiversity and water retention capacity – for stable harvests and resilient ecosystems.
Panel on climate-resilient agriculture
On November 19, Carina Rolly (ADRA Germany eV) will moderate the panel “Turning targets into action: climate-resilient food and agriculture under the GGA” at the German Climate Pavilion . The discussion will focus on how climate targets can be translated into concrete measures for agriculture, food, and water – especially for vulnerable groups such as women, children, indigenous communities, and smallholder farms.
This also includes the question of how international climate finance can be made more effective and how more measurable progress can be achieved in the areas of food security and adaptation . The panel highlights the necessary link between global agreements and the realities of life on the ground.
