HEAG mobilo is modernizing its double-decker bus fleet on the airport route
As jointly announced by the City of Darmstadt, the Darmstadt-Dieburg district, HEAG mobilo, and Daimler Buses, HEAG mobilo is renewing its bright yellow AirLiner fleet. Two new Setra double-decker buses have been in service since the beginning of January, and two more vehicles are expected to follow during the summer.
The AirLiner has connected Darmstadt city center directly with Frankfurt Airport since 1990. With approximately 200,000 kilometers traveled annually, it is the busiest line in the HEAG mobilo network. Double-decker buses are not used on any other route.
Direct connection of regional importance
Head of Transport Paul Georg Wandrey describes the buses as "real eye-catchers" and emphasizes the importance of the connection for Darmstadt's attractiveness. The line is also important for the Darmstadt-Dieburg district: The stop at Luisenplatz allows passengers from the region to conveniently transfer from regional buses to the AirLiner, explains First District Councillor Lutz Köhler.
Whether for holiday trips, business trips or the commute to the airport – the direct connection is considered a reliable means of transport for the city and region.
More comfort and modern assistance systems
In addition to a new exterior design, the interiors of the buses have also been modernized. New flooring creates a pleasant travel atmosphere. The seats are upholstered in eLeather, a material made from recycled leather that is particularly easy to clean and hygienic.
The safety features have also been enhanced. Among other things, the vehicles are equipped with the ABA 6 emergency braking assistant, which intervenes automatically in the event of an impending rear-end collision and can also detect pedestrians and cyclists. Sideguard Assist 2 warns of road users in the blind spot when turning. Additionally, the MirrorCam system with high-resolution cameras provides an expanded field of vision and increased driving safety.
The new buses also meet the current Euro 6E emissions standard.
Double-decker planes in service since 2014
Due to significantly increased demand, HEAG mobilo has been using double-decker buses on the airport route since 2014. These offer not only more seats, but also ample space for luggage and a wheelchair space – an advantage over traditional coaches.
The management of HEAG mobilo is satisfied with the new generation of vehicles, which combines high mileage with comfort and capacity.
