Visitors get to know alpacas and their relatives up close.
Darmstadt's Vivarium Zoo recently started offering one-hour alpaca tours. Participants learn interesting facts about the biology and uses of alpacas and can watch the animals being fed.
“We look forward to introducing visitors to alpacas and their special characteristics, as well as interesting facts about their wild relatives, the vicuñas, during a walk through the zoo. Vicuñas can also be seen in the vivarium,” says the responsible department head and city treasurer, André Schellenberg.
The tour lasts one hour, and two people can participate per alpaca. The maximum group size is six people. The tour costs €80 per alpaca, including zoo admission for one person; a second person only pays the regular zoo admission.
Guided tours take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 2:30 p.m. Registration is possible by phone or email to zoo-vivarium@darmstadt.de .
