Mayor Hanno Benz expressed sympathy after a fatal act of violence at the Graz school
After the severe killing spree at a school in Graz with several fatalities, Darmstadt's Mayor Hanno Benz expressed his sympathy. Graz has been a partner city of the science city of Darmstadt since 1968.
"This act is shattering, a tragedy and leaves incredible suffering in our twin city," said Benz on Tuesday afternoon. "We are in thoughts in Graz during these hours and days."
The killing spree occurred on Tuesday morning. According to official information, ten people died through shots , others were injured. The incident occurred at a school, the police continued to investigate the background.
Benz has given the Mayor of Graz Elke Kahr's personal sympathy and the solidarity of the science city. "We also offered support and help - if we can do anything in these difficult hours," continued Benz.
Cities partnership with Graz since 1968
The Austrian city of Graz is the capital of the state of Styria and with over 300,000 inhabitants the second largest city in the country. The municipal partnership with Darmstadt has existed since 1968 and is cultivated by a regular exchange at cultural and civil society level.
