Delay at the daycare construction site-historical remains are documented digitally
The remains of the dragon barracks built in the 19th century in the 19th century were discovered in earth alarm work on Marienplatz in Darmstadt. At the construction site of the future daycare center, which is realized by the real estate management of the Science City of Darmstadt (IDA), construction workers came across the remains of the wall and a vault that was probably used as a seepage pit.
The finds date from the time of the Dragon barracks was built between 1825 and 1827 The building was destroyed together with the adjacent parade place in the Darmstadt fire night from 11th to September 12, 1944.
Archaeological documentation using a 3D model
As usual with urban construction projects, the necessary ordnance probes were coordinated in advance with the Darmstadt regional council . According to the Lower Monument Protection Authority, the structures that have now been discovered are carefully documented and mapped by an archaeological specialist company. 3D model is to be created from the data .
After the archaeological work, the foundations are removed. The construction of the new daycare center will continue.
Two weeks of building delay - foundation stone in May
The construction progress is delayed by archaeological work by about two weeks. The foundation stone for the new daycare center is still planned for May 2025 . The completion and commissioning of the facility is planned in autumn 2026 .
