City police recognize man during the Heinerfest - senior in medical treatment
Darmstadt. After an argument between a cyclist and a 70-year-old man on Tuesday (July 1) on Landgraf-Georg-Straße, the police arrested a suspect on Friday evening (July 4). The arrest took place as part of the Heiner Festival after a public search.
According to previous investigations, there had been a dispute between the senior and a previously unknown cyclist around noon. According to witnesses, the cyclist is said to have accelerated specifically in the course of the incident and hit the man by bike. The 70-year-old fell and had to be reanimated on site. He was hospitalized and is now out of danger.
In the area of Holzstraße, a patrol of the city police checked a 30-year-old man around 8:20 p.m., whose external characteristics agreed with the description of the person from the search. The city police then immediately informed the state police, which temporarily arrested the man from Darmstadt and brought him to the office for further measures.
An investigation was initiated against the arrested for suspected dangerous bodily harm. Commissioner 10 of the Darmstadt criminal police conducts the further investigation.
Police vice president Dirk Fornoff thanked the emergency services involved: "A big thank you to the patrol of the city police and our emergency services for their quick and committed action. I am pleased that after such a difficult act that many people in Darmstadt shaked deeply, we were able to identify and arrest a suspect so quickly.
The police point out that the photo published as part of the public investigation must be deleted immediately and must not be spread further.
