The Protestant deanery invites you to outdoor and church services on May 29th
On Thursday, May 29, 2025, congregations in the Protestant Deanery of Darmstadt will celebrate Ascension Day with numerous services – both outdoors and in churches. The holiday commemorates Christ's return to God in heaven. "Celebrating Ascension Day means understanding ourselves as beings of both earth and heaven," says Dean Dr. Raimund Wirth.
Church services in Darmstadt
At 10 a.m., an open-air church service entitled "When Will Heaven Open?" Mathildenhöhe , accompanied by the Darmstadt Protestant Brass Ensemble. Afterwards, the Darmstadt Jazz Club invites everyone to its traditional jazz picnic. The service is a collaboration of six Darmstadt church congregations.
Other church services in Darmstadt:
- Kreuzkirche (Jakob-Jung-Straße 29): 10 a.m., with Pastor Barbara Themel – organized by Kreuzkirche congregation, Auferstehungsgemeinde and Wixhausen church congregation.
- Bessungen Church (Am Kapellberg 2): 10 a.m., church service with theology student Pia Lindenblatt (Petrus parish).
Church services in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district
Various Ascension Day services are also taking place in the parishes of the deanery in the district:
- Frankenstein / Felsinghütte at the forest sports field: 11 a.m., under the motto "Above the Clouds" , with Pastor Jonas Bauer (Eberstadt). Bus shuttle from Eberstadt (Christuskirche, City of Heidelberg, Community Center South).
- Nieder-Modau (Heinrich-Gerold-Haus): 10 a.m.
- Ernsthofen (Castle Church): 10 a.m., with Pastor Christoph Lubotta and Pastor Nicola Bültermann-Bieber, accompanied musically by brass ensembles from the region.
- Eschollbrücken (Grillhaus am Sandbach): 10 a.m., ecumenical service with Pastor Gudrun Olschewski and Parish Assistant Hiltrud Beckenkamp.
- Pfungstadt-Hahn (Merschroth'sche Höfe): 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Ute Strack de Carillo.
- Roßdorf and Gundernhausen (Rehberg): 10 a.m., ecumenical service with Pastor Nathalie Franke.
- Weiterstadt (Braunshardter Tännchen): 10 a.m., with Pastor Raphael Eckert-Heckelmann and musical accompaniment by the SGW Music Department.
- Erzhausen (Evangelical Church, Hauptstraße 23): 10:30 a.m., with Holy Communion and preacher Jürgen Heitmann.
