Culinary delights, artistry and music to mark the start of the asparagus season in Groß-Gerau
The Gerauer Land Asparagus Days 2025 were officially opened with a festive gala at the Volkshaus Büttelborn. Around 220 guests enjoyed a diverse program and culinary specialties featuring asparagus. The event marked the festive start of a series of activities centered around this regional delicacy.
In addition to a high-quality asparagus buffet prepared by six regional restaurants, visitors were treated to an entertaining program: The jazz band "Hot Four" provided musical highlights, while artist Dustin Waree impressed with unicycle acrobatics. Jens Ohle entertained with ladder acrobatics and juggling – with audience participation – and Monique Schröder thrilled with an impressive Pezzi ball show.
Moderator Christian Döring charmingly guided the audience through the evening and welcomed, among others, District Administrator Thomas Will and the Asparagus Queens Lena Lochmann (Groß-Gerau) and Svea Reitz (State of Hesse) to the stage. Representatives from the participating restaurants also introduced themselves to the audience.
The following people helped at the buffet:
- Hotel Monika Büttelborn (Holger Gries, DEHOGA District Chairman)
- Restaurant Split Büttelborn (Dragan Akmadzic)
- Party Service Zeitz (Jürgen Zeitz)
- Mangold Bischofsheim (Florian Rothbauer)
- Hotel Adler Groß-Gerau (Matthias and Christian Werum)
- Hotel Rheingold Gernsheim (Hans Andres)
District Administrator Thomas Will was delighted: “That was a particularly atmospheric start. The gala and the asparagus days are firmly anchored in the annual calendar of the Groß-Gerau district.”
