Events on August 26 and September 10 on refugee experiences, integration and social debate
Darmstadt. Under the motto "Asylum is a human right," the Darmstadt district association of Alliance 90/The Greens is organizing two public discussion evenings. The focus will be on migration, personal experiences of displacement, integration, and current political developments.
The background to this is the global situation, in which approximately 122 million people are currently fleeing war and persecution. The Green Party in Darmstadt aims to contribute to a factual discussion with these events and, at the same time, draw attention to limitations on the right to asylum.
August 26: “Be human” – Refugee experiences and facts
The first evening of the series will take place on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the Rosa Parks Hall in the Lincoln Settlement. Timmo Scherenberg from the Hessian Refugee Council will present current facts on asylum policy. Fateme Hosseini, Amir, Fatima, and Saman will share their personal experiences of fleeing their home countries, their hopes, and the challenges they face.
Following this, Barbara Akdeniz, Mayor and Head of Social Services for the City of Darmstadt, and Andreas Schwöbel from the Church Asylum program will speak about the local situation and society's treatment of asylum seekers. The discussion will be moderated by Eva Bredow-Cordier and Sandra Seeger.
September 10: Migration as an asset
The second evening will take place on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 7 p.m. at the "Zum Goldenen Löwen" in Arheilgen. Under the working title "Migration as an Asset," representatives from Darmstadt companies and initiatives will discuss the contribution of immigration to societal prosperity.
Both events are open to the public; registration is not required.
