Preparation for the Commonwealth Games at the Nordbad and DSW outdoor pools
From July 11th to 22nd, 2026, the Australian national swimming team will hold its training camp in Darmstadt. During this time, the athletes will prepare for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow at the Nordbad indoor pool and the DSW outdoor pool in Bürgerpark.
Mayor and Head of Sports Hanno Benz sees the visit as a special recognition for Darmstadt as a sporting location. "The visit of the Australian national swimming team is a great honor for Darmstadt and underscores the excellent cooperation between the city, clubs, and partners. Such international training camps strengthen our sporting position, inspire young athletes, and demonstrate that Darmstadt offers optimal conditions for top-level competitive sports," said Benz.
The city, clubs and partners impress in international competition
The German Swimming and Sports Club Darmstadt 1912 (DSW12) also played a key role in the successful bid. DSW12 Chairman Thomas Kipp points to the coordinated overall concept: "With the package we offered, comprising training facilities provided by the city and DSW in the Bürgerpark, as well as our partners Welcome Hotel, Fitness First and HEAG mobilo, we succeeded in convincing the Australian federation leadership of our capabilities and prevailing against other European applicants for this attractive visit."
The training camp of the Australian national team underlines the importance of Darmstadt as a high-performing and internationally recognized training location and at the same time sends a strong signal for organized sport in the science city.
