Hessen Mobil plans completion by early April 2026
Ober-Ramstadt/Hahn. As part of the construction of the Ober-Ramstadt/Hahn bypass, Hessen Mobil will begin work on a new retaining wall on Monday, August 18, 2025. This wall will compensate for the change in terrain between the cutting embankment, the cycle path, and the new federal highway.
Initially, the construction site will be set up without major traffic disruptions. A partial traffic rerouting and road widening is currently scheduled for October. Completion of the retaining wall is planned for early April 2026.
Status of construction work
The bridge over a farm track, the roundabout, and a pedestrian and cycle path bridge approximately 250 meters west of Hahn have already been completed. Road construction on the approximately 1.8-kilometer-long route is scheduled to begin at the end of the year.
The new B 426 is scheduled to open to traffic at the end of 2026. Following this, the old B 426 will be demolished to the west and east of Hahn, farm roads will be rebuilt, and construction site facilities will be removed. This work is scheduled for completion in May 2027.
Relief for Hahn
The existing B 426 currently leads directly into the narrow town center of Hahn, with a tight curve and downhill section. Around 15,000 vehicles—including many trucks—travel along this route daily. Traffic jams are common, especially at narrow points.
The bypass will reduce traffic flow through the town by up to 90 percent. The route runs north around Hahn and will reconnect to the B 426 at the eastern end via a roundabout. A three-lane extension towards Darmstadt will be built over a distance of 1.1 kilometers. Two small bridges will ensure the connection to the network of cycle paths and farm tracks.
The total cost of the project amounts to approximately €19 million and is being funded by the federal government. Further information is available at mobil.hessen.de .
