Hessen Mobil begins traffic management – work will continue until October 2026
Hessen Mobil has announced that work will begin on Monday, November 24th, to completely rehabilitate a bridge on the B45 federal highway between Dieburg and Altheim. The bridge crosses Deutsche Bahn railway tracks and an agricultural access road. The construction project is scheduled to last until the end of October 2026.
Traffic management during the construction period
The B 45 is a four-lane highway in this section. During the renovation, traffic will continue in both directions – albeit on at least one lane in each direction . To achieve this, the roadway will be narrowed alternately and diverted to the opposite carriageway via a newly constructed median crossover .
Before the actual renovation work begins, Hessen Mobil is setting up the extensive traffic management system, including the construction of this crossing.
Extensive renovation work on the bridge
The bridge, built in 1976, shows damage to the superstructure, substructure, abutments, expansion joints, and wing and retaining walls. Repairs will begin in January 2026 on the Rodgau-bound side. The roadway, waterproofing, and surfacing will be removed first, along with the protective barriers.
Among other things, are planned:
- Repair of caps, spalling, cracks and exposed reinforcement
- complete renewal of the waterproofing
- Installation of new watertight transition structures
- Complete reconstruction of the roadway including frost protection layer
- Replacement of guardrails on the bridge and in the connecting areas
The substructure is also undergoing comprehensive repair: concrete spalling and cracks are being removed, construction joints are being renewed, and drainage pipes are being replaced.
Costs and further information
The cost of the measure amounts to approximately 1.5 million euros , financed by the federal government.
