Hessen Mobil starts woodwork and species protection measures to prepare the demolition of the Talbrücke
In the course of the blocking of the valley bridge near Bad König/Zell on federal road 45, preparatory measures for the planned demolition started on Monday (May 27th). Hessen Mobil carries out wood work and species protection measures in coordination with the lower nature conservation authority. The goal is to demolish the dilapidated bridge as quickly as possible, which has been fully blocked since the end of April 2025.
Grasses, blackberry bushes and bushes are currently being cut back around the valley bridge. Several trees - including black trees and a maple - must also be felled because they are in the immediate danger area of the bridge or in the construction site. The work also serves to set up construction site logistics.
At the same time, the already installed hazel mouse goblins are checked to document the occurrence of protected species. Appropriate ecological compensation measures are planned after the construction work has been completed.
Security area closed below the bridge
The area below the valley bridge was cordoned off last week. Building fences prevent access to bike and economic paths that run under the bridge in order to exclude a risk from falling concrete parts.
The bridge crosses the Mümling and a railway line and is an important traffic junction in the Odenwald. At the end of April, experts found critical cracks in the concrete during bridge tests, whereupon the B 45 was closed in both directions.
Task Force set up for bridge closure
Hessen Mobil has set up a project-taskforce that is currently working on a specific schedule for dismantling. All options for planning acceleration should be exploited. The authorities involved have announced that they actively support the process - despite the complex framework of nature conservation law at the location of the Talbrücke.
