High birth rate and more weddings
Darmstadt - The registry office of the Science City of Darmstadt has taken stock again for the past year 2024 and compiled key figures for the services offered. The still high birth rate is striking, but this also confirms the previous forecasts.
"We expect this trend to continue because the Darmstadt location with its two maternity hospitals attracts a large number of parents, especially outside of Darmstadt," explains the responsible administrative head Paul Georg Wandrey. A total of 4001 children were born in Darmstadt in 2024 (2023: 4100). 1315 with the mother's residence in Darmstadt and 2686 with residence outside of Darmstadt. For the youngsters, the maiden names Lina (26), Emma (24) and Mia (23) were most frequently selected, for young names Emil (25), Liam (24) and Leon and Luca (19 each).
The online services of the Darmstadt registry office continued to enjoy great popularity in 2024. Over 95 percent of all civil status certificates were digitally ordered via the online document portal and largely paid for. “In addition, our online schedule for booking Trauterminen, which was introduced in 2017, is very well received. Almost all of the intestinal dates offered are reserved online by the citizens, ”says City Councilor Wandrey. “In 2022 we were able to complement our online termination with the deadlines of adults and children as well as document collection. In2024 we were able to expand the digital appointment offer to expand the date types of birth and paternity recognition. But we will also work on further progress in the coming years. ”
The number of marriages has also increased significantly compared to the previous year. This is also due to the increased offer for weddings on Friday afternoons and Saturdays. The demand for 2025 indicates a further increase. “Darmstadt has very attractive wedding locations with the wedding tower, the old town hall and the Dianaburg. There is also the possibility to marry in the district administrations of Eberstadt and Wixhausen, ”explains Wandrey, who carried out five weddings in 2024. In the district administration of Arheilgen, due to a lack of spatiality, no civil marriages are possible.
A total of 882 (2023: 785) weddings were carried out. Of them in the wedding tower: 494 (2023: 430), in Dianaburg: 68 (2023: 44), in the district administration of Arheilgen: 0 (2023: 1), in the district administration of Eberstadt: 5 (2023: 3) and in the district administration Wixhausen : 1 (2023: 2). There were a total of 24 (2023: 21, possible since October 1st, 2017). There were conversions of existing civil partnerships in marriages to Paragraph 17a PStG (2023: 3; possible since October 1, 2017).
Dying
There were 2306 (2023: 2522). As a special feature, it can be stated that the burial cases to be determined further. The investigation for a burial case is an average of six hours. The processing effort is significantly lower without relatives, the more relatives the deceased, the more complex the processing can be. In principle, the area of the burials to be ordered cannot be calculated and controlled, but a tendency is clearly visible that: more and more people without relatives and, more and more relatives, are unable to cover the burial costs, more and more relatives are not ready/willing the funeral costs are to be covered and more and more dying do not have any assets that could be used for the purpose of paying the funeral costs.
In the event of ordered burials with relatives subject to burial, it is therefore a considerable effort for the civil employees to assert this claim. The registry office Darmstadt as the regulatory authority had to pay expenses of more than 135,000 euros for the funeral system in 2024, but at the same time could achieve earnings of almost 80,000 euros through good and time -consuming investigation (for example by contacting them with relatives or based on existing assets) .
