Book launch on November 5th: A novel about four families, history and freedom
On Wednesday, November 5, 2025 , author Barbara Zeizinger her new book, "Leben in Etagen" (Life on Floors) , at the Literaturhaus Darmstadt (Kasinostraße 3). The novel tells the story of a house in Darmstadt where four families—including one Jewish family—lived between 1931 and 2019. Against the backdrop of the Nazi era , the post-war reconstruction and the economic miracle , Zeizinger explores how history shapes life, decisions, and individual freedom.
A house as a mirror of German history
In her new work, Barbara Zeizinger intertwines the fates of several generations with the political and social upheavals of the 20th century. The result is a multifaceted portrait of people searching for their place in life amidst adaptation, loss, and new beginnings.
Talk, music and admission free
The discussion with the author will be led by Michael Hüttenberger . Musical accompaniment will be provided by Gudrun Lang-Eurisch (double bass) and Matthias Schubert (piano) .
The event begins at 7:30 p.m. , and admission is free .
Barbara Zeizinger participated in the Darmstadt Text Workshop and is a member of the PEN Center Germany , the authors' association DIE KOGGE , and the Association of German Writers (VS) .
