The trumpet shall sound
The focus of the Baroque concert is on works by Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel. The concert will feature a multifaceted interplay between organ with baritone horn and Baroque trumpet in the "Presentation of the Lord".
Klaus Mertens, a baritone and one of the most distinguished singers on the world's Baroque scene, will be performing at St. Josef Church. His program includes church cantatas by Bach, selections from Schemelli's Hymnal, and excerpts from the Christmas Oratorio, complemented by two sacred concertos by Heinrich Schütz. Handel's works will also be featured, including "The Trumpet Shall Sound" from Messiah. For four decades, the baritone has been celebrated for his expressive and radiant voice.
Solo trumpeter Astrid Brachtendorf performs not only in Germany but is also in demand internationally. Baroque music is a focus of her repertoire, alongside Romantic music. In this concert, she will perform Baroque sounds and accompany "The trumpet shall sound." She will also play the Sonata Seconda by Giovanni Buonaventura Viviani.
Jorin Sandau, regional cantor at St. Ludwig Church in Darmstadt, will play the organ. He will accompany the soloists on the restored Bosch organ and complement the performance with organ works. The Catholic parish and the Church Music Committee cordially invite you to this grand Baroque concert. Thanks are due to the Dotter Foundation for supporting this concert.
