GROSS-GERAU DISTRICT – The Lower Nature Conservation Authority invites you to an excursion "On the Trail of the Beaver" on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to approximately 12 p.m. Led by Christian Kehrenberg, visitors will learn more about the lifestyle of Europe's largest rodent.
Since 2020, the beaver has been expanding again in the Groß-Gerau district. Its traces are unmistakable: gnawed trees and shrubs, carefully constructed dams and water lodges. With its activities, the beaver shapes entire landscapes. By damming streams, new wetlands are created, riparian forests are rewetted, and meadows provide habitat for numerous animal and plant species. In this way, the "landscape architect" makes a significant contribution to promoting biodiversity.
The excursion offers an opportunity to experience the beaver and its impact on nature up close.
