The Lower Nature Conservation Authority invites you to an excursion on September 13th
GROSS-GERAU DISTRICT – The Lower Nature Conservation Authority invites you to an excursion “On the Trail of the Beaver” on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to approximately 12:00 p.m. Led by Christian Kehrenberg, participants will learn more about the lifestyle of Europe’s largest rodent.
Since 2020, the beaver population has been expanding again in the Groß-Gerau district. Its presence is unmistakable: gnawed trees and shrubs, meticulously constructed dams and lodges in the water. Beavers are shaping entire landscapes through their activity. By damming streams, they create new wetlands, re-wetting riparian forests, and providing habitats for numerous animal and plant species in meadows. In this way, these "landscape architects" make a significant contribution to promoting biodiversity.
This excursion offers the opportunity to experience beavers and their impact on nature up close. Registration is required by September 11th : via the registration form on the homepage of the Lower Nature Conservation Authority or by phone at 06152 989-84755 (Lukas) . The exact meeting point will be communicated to all registered participants in due time.
