New building with passive house standard and barrier-free facilities officially opened / Mayor Benz: "A promise for the future of modern education"
The city of Darmstadt, known for its scientific institutions, officially opened the new main building of the Bertolt Brecht School . Mayor Hanno Benz, City Treasurer André Schellenberg, and Head of School Affairs Holger Klötzner, together with Headmaster Sebastian Franke, emphasized the importance of the new building for the city's educational infrastructure at the opening ceremony.
A milestone for modern school architecture
The three-story new building replaces the previously demolished main building on the same site and is connected to the existing specialist classroom wing from 2011 via a connecting corridor. The passive house construction with comprehensive accessibility features has been certified by the Passive House Institute.
“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in the more than 50-year history of the Bertolt Brecht School. With this new building, we are setting a precedent for the future – for a school that meets modern demands while simultaneously reaffirming its role as a place for equal opportunities and education for all,” said Mayor Hanno Benz.
Unique architecture with added educational value
A special feature of the new building is the stage in the auditorium, which can be accessed from both sides sun protection and safety thanks to a surrounding emergency exit balcony . The new main entrance is accessible via the redesigned schoolyard.
