Bunliang Inderwies has been internationally involved in working with search dogs for decades
The German Shepherd Dog Association (SV) e.V., Groß-Gerau local chapter, boasts a particularly dedicated member: Bunliang "Noy" Inderwies , who celebrated her 65th birthday on July 3rd. Her decades-long commitment to search and rescue dog sports extends far beyond Germany's borders and also includes volunteer work with the Nauheim Volunteer Fire Department. Her life story connects two continents – and one great passion: working with dogs.
From a village in Thailand to Groß-Gerau
Growing up on a farm in Udon Thani in northeastern Thailand, Noy Inderwies was surrounded by dogs from an early age. Her fascination with service dogs, however, began during a stay in London , where she worked as a cook and became acquainted with the work of police dogs. After moving to Germany in 1991, she soon joined the Mörfelden local chapter of the German Shepherd Dog Association and the Federal Association of Rescue Dogs (BRH) .
A key moment was her coaching of the Japanese national team during a BRH World Championship in Germany. This international collaboration sparked her interest in competitions and deepened her enthusiasm for dog sports – especially with German Shepherds .
International successes in search and rescue dog sports
Her sporting breakthrough came in 2010 with the then 18-month-old German Shepherd "Forrest vom Mörfelder Land" : Together they became the winning team of the German Championship of the VDH (German Kennel Club) within the BRH (German Rescue Dog Association ). The international highlight followed in 2013 with their victory at the "3rd IRO Testing Nederland" in the "Rubble B" category. This also brought Noy recognition in her home country – particularly from the organization United SAR K9 , which belongs to the umbrella organization IRO .
Involvement in Groß-Gerau and Nauheim
Since 2018, Noy Inderwies has been an active member of the Groß-Gerau local chapter of the German Shepherd Dog Association and co-founder of the search and rescue dog unit at the Nauheim Volunteer Fire Department , together with Jutta Klar and Gerd Wiebel. There, not only area search dogs but also mantrailers (person search dogs) are trained for emergency situations. The unit has become an important component of local disaster relief.
Development work in Thailand – with royal recognition
Noy remains active in Thailand as well: In her hometown of Udon Thani , she built a modern dog park on a rubble-strewn terrain . It is used free of charge by local associations. Military representatives and members of the media were present at the grand opening in February 2023. Her commitment has not gone unnoticed by the Thai royal family Princess Bajrakitiyabha her to interpret at a competition.
In December 2022, at the princess's request, Noy completed a three-week training and examination period at the Military Dog Battalion in Nong Sarai (Nakhon Ratchasima Province). Her expertise and calm demeanor made a great impression – however, she declined an offer of a permanent position. Germany remains her home, where she continues her volunteer work with great humility.
Between two worlds – with heart for dogs and people
“My dogs are my children,” says Noy Inderwies about her close bond with her four-legged companions. She never forgets the human aspect, however: cooperation, exchange, and mutual respect characterize her work in associations and aid organizations. A woman of international stature – and a role model for intergenerational volunteerism.
