Early lead not enough – Darmstadt drop points in the promotion race
Setback in the promotion race: SV Darmstadt 98 lost 1-2 (1-0) Arminia Bielefeld
The East Westphalians started strongly, but the first big chance belonged to Darmstadt. Killian Corredor cut inside and tested goalkeeper Kersken with a well-placed shot (4'). Just two minutes later, the visitors were celebrating: After a free-kick routine, Fraser Hornby laid the ball off for Maglica, who powerfully fired it into the net to give Darmstadt a 1-0 lead (6').
As a result, Bielefeld increasingly took control and repeatedly created dangerous chances in front of Darmstadt's goal. Darmstadt offered little going forward and managed to hold onto their narrow lead until halftime.
Bielefeld turned the game around after the break
After the break, the hosts got off to a perfect start. Just two minutes after the restart, Telalovic headed in a cross to equalize at 1-1 (47'). Arminia remained the more active team, while Hannover 98 struggled to find any solutions in attack.
The decision finally came in the final phase: A deflected ball landed at the feet of Rochelt, who scored from close range to make it 2-1 for Bielefeld (81st minute).
This defeat represents a setback for Darmstadt in their promotion bid. The hosts were superior for much of the match and ultimately deservedly secured the three points.
