Guided tour on April 15th explains the behavior and sounds of the birds
The Vivarium Zoo Darmstadt is offering a special guided tour for senior citizens on the topic of bird sounds on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
Why birds chirp and call
Under the title "Birdsong in the Vivarium Zoo," zoo educator Dr. Frank Velte explains the diverse vocalizations of birds. Among other things, he discusses why sparrows chirp, great tits call, and peacocks make particular sounds.
The guided tour provides background information on the animals' behavior and shows that the different voices fulfill specific functions.
Meeting point and participation
The event starts at 10 a.m. at the zoo school in the Vivarium Zoo.
In addition to the regular admission fee, a participation fee of 4.50 euros per person will be charged.
