Surprise for the children's fire brigade – now all that's missing is a name!
Wide eyes and beaming faces among the young members of the Griesheim Volunteer Fire Department ": The children's fire brigade has its very own mascot! As the Griesheim Fire Department announced in a press release, the idea arose during a conversation between the children's fire brigade leader and Michaela Brandecker from the Griesheim "Sewing Factory." The mascot's creation remained a closely guarded secret until its unveiling – and the surprise was a complete success.
"The children knew nothing about it and were overjoyed when they finally held the finished mascot in their hands," reports the Blaulichtbande team. And the surprise got even bigger: Michaela Brandecker promptly donated the lovingly crafted plush toy to the children's fire brigade.
Learning and experiencing together
Since March 2024, the "Blue Light Gang" has been meeting every other Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the fire station. With a loud cry of "Blue Light Gang 112 – We're in!", the 15 children, aged six to nine, along with their six-person supervisory team, embark on varied training sessions.
The program covers more than just fire service topics like equipment, making emergency calls, and vehicles. The junior fire brigade also participates in joint activities such as bike rides, crafts, and baking cookies. This fosters a wonderful sense of community – combined with fire service knowledge and lots of fun!

Now all that's missing is a name!
One thing remains: The new mascot of the Blue Light Gang doesn't have a name yet! Perhaps the children themselves will soon be able to vote on what the new plush firefighter friend should be called. One thing is certain, though: The Blue Light Gang has found a new, cuddly companion who will accompany them on their exciting firefighting adventures in the future.
