Breeding and nesting season begins – dogs should be kept on a leash until July 15th
With the start of the growing season, the city of Darmstadt is calling on all nature visitors to be especially considerate of young animals. During the breeding and birthing season, many birds, hares, and deer give birth to their young. Ground-nesting bird species such as lapwings, pheasants, and partridges are particularly vulnerable to disturbance.
Rules of conduct in nature
To avoid endangering the young animals, the city requests:
- Use only official routes to avoid disturbing ground-nesting birds or young animals.
- Do not enter meadows, fields or meadows , as many animals give birth there.
- Avoid cutting hedges and shrubs : According to the Federal Nature Conservation Act, cutting woody plants is prohibited from March 1st to September 30th .
