Hessen Mobil announces road closures, a no-fly zone, and live broadcasts
Bad König/Zell. The valley bridge on Federal Highway 45 near Bad König/Zell is scheduled to be demolished by explosives on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. 3,000-ton bridge have been underway for weeks .
Road closures around Zell from 8 a.m
For safety reasons, a safety radius of approximately 250 meters established around the bridge on the day of the demolition. From 8:00 a.m., all access roads to Zell will be completely closed. The closures are scheduled to be lifted around 12:00 p.m. The following access roads, among others, will be affected:
- B 45 from the direction of Michelstadt , behind the Asselbrunn industrial park (access to Walther-Rathenau-Allee remains possible)
- Königer Straße in Zell , before the junction with B 45 / L 3414 (Café Orth and Möbel Kempf remain accessible)
- Weiten-Gesäß-Straße in Zell , junction “Im Neuroth”
- Heuberweg in Weiten-Gesäß
The detour will take place via the state roads L 3318 and L 3349 to Vielbrunn , from there via the B 47 back to Michelstadt .
No-fly zone and no spectators on site
no-fly zone for drones will be established during the demolition . Police and fire departments will use their own drones to monitor the safety area. Hessen Mobil emphasizes that on-site inspections are not possible – also due to the difficult terrain. Residents in the immediate vicinity will have to briefly evacuated .
The public is encouraged to follow the event via live streams on television or the internet . Several media outlets are planning to broadcast the demolition live.
Background: Closure since April – new building planned
The bridge carries the Odenwald Railway, a cycle path, and the Mümling River. It was closed in both directions at the end of April after cracks were discovered in the concrete. A project task force is now working on a rapid replacement.
