The city council insists on use by clubs and groups – sales are excluded
The future of the Zöllerhannes community center remains a topic of discussion in the Griesheim city council. At the meeting on Monday (April 28), Mayor Geza Krebs-Wetzl provided an update on the selection and awarding process for a new lease. The previously favored applicant has unexpectedly withdrawn their interest.
The city currently has another application under review, which will be thoroughly examined in the coming weeks. The city council reiterated its central goal: the community center's premises should continue to be available to Griesheim's clubs, groups, and citizens.
The city administration stated that the building's two halls are particularly important for meeting the growing demand for event spaces in Griesheim. Demand has risen significantly, partly due to changing usage patterns at other facilities.
The preservation of the community center, which looks back on over 300 years of history in the city's life, was already stipulated in previous resolutions of the city council. According to the city administration, a sale of the property is not planned and would contradict the established political decision.
In the event that a new lease agreement is not reached, an alternative operating and usage concept is currently being developed. This concept envisions diverse and combined usage options to ensure the community center remains actively involved in city life.
