Specialist advisors on the move in the residential area – prevention campaign during the dark season
Experience shows that the risk of burglaries increases during the darker months of the year. To raise public awareness about burglary prevention, police advisors from the South Hesse Police Headquarters were out and about in the Ludwigshöhe district of Darmstadt last Wednesday afternoon (January 7th).
The security advisors distributed informational materials and actively sought out conversations with residents. At the same time, they looked for potential vulnerabilities that might attract burglars, such as open garages or tilted windows. If no one was home, flyers with important prevention tips were left in mailboxes.
Goal: To raise awareness and provide concrete guidance on site
The aim of this initiative is to inform residents about preventative measures and to draw their attention to potential improvements. Since burglaries are often meticulously planned, an attentive neighborhood is of particular importance.
Police advise that windows, as well as balcony and patio doors, should always be closed when you are away. Tilted windows present an easy obstacle to entry and are particularly inviting to burglars. To give the impression that the house is occupied, timers can be used for lights or the radio. Furthermore, technical security measures such as burglar-resistant windows, additional locks, or alarm systems significantly increase protection.
