Police advise residents on burglary prevention in Geinsheim
Experience shows that the number of burglaries increases during the darker months of the year. To inform residents about effective preventative measures, experts from the South Hesse Police Headquarters Geinsheim district of Trebur on Monday, January 19th . Between 12 pm and 2 pm, they spoke with residents and provided information on current and effective burglary prevention options.
The focus of the operation was the residential area "Am Mittelpfad." Police officers distributed informational materials there and explained the role of a vigilant neighborhood in preventing burglaries. A total of approximately 600 flyers on the topic of "Living Safely" and another 600 information sheets on neighborhood safety were handed out. Around 15 residents took advantage of the opportunity for individual consultations. In cases with an increased risk of burglary, the police also informed those affected by leaving a notice card in their mailbox.
Principles for greater security
Regardless of the operation, the police point to basic measures that can make it more difficult for burglars to proceed:
- Windows, balcony and patio doors should be closed when you are away; even tilted openings can attract perpetrators.
- Timers for lights or radios make living spaces appear occupied.
- Alarm systems and improved security on doors and windows increase protection.
- Open garages often provide an easy opportunity for theft.
Individual consultation possible
