Literature and organ music are on the program at the Darmstadt city center church on October 3rd
With literature and music, the St. Ludwig Church in Darmstadt's city center will commemorate the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis on Saturday, October 3, 2026. The event, entitled "Canticle of the Sun," begins at 6 p.m. Texts by authors including Ingeborg Bachmann, Hilde Domin, and Rainer Maria Rilke will be performed, along with organ music.
Pastor Stefan Schäfer will select and introduce the texts. Christian Klischat will read the text, and Jorin Sandau will play the Winterhalter organ. The musical program includes works by Louis Vierne and Olivier Messiaen, as well as improvisations.
Literature and music related to the Canticle of the Sun
The event is based on the "Canticle of the Sun" by Francis of Assisi. It takes place as part of the Creation Weeks in the Diocese of Mainz.
Entry to St. Ludwig at Wilhelminenplatz 9 is free, donations are requested.
