Transport of school IT equipment between Darmstadt schools is to become more efficient
Digitalstadt Darmstadt GmbH is providing the Darmstadt school board with another cargo e-bike. The bicycle has a large transport box and will primarily be used for school IT projects.
As Holger Klötzner, head of the school and digitalization department, explains, the new vehicle is intended to make travel between schools in the city more efficient and environmentally friendly. In particular, the transport of larger IT equipment can be organized more easily with it.
Support for maintenance and IT service at schools
The cargo e-bike complements the school IT department's existing fleet, which already includes four cargo e-bikes and two e-bikes. School support staff are regularly deployed to the various school locations for maintenance, installation, and support tasks.
This additional means of transport allows IT devices, network equipment, and other technical equipment to be transported directly between schools. The electric assistance also makes it easier to transport larger loads.
Alternative to the company car for short distances
Previously, electric vehicles belonging to Darmstadt's municipal services department sometimes had to be used for such journeys. Especially for short and medium distances, the cargo e-bike now offers a flexible alternative to conventional service vehicles.
The use of electrically assisted bicycles helps to cover distances in a time-saving manner and at the same time reduces motorized individual transport in the urban area.
Reuse of a project vehicle
Previously, the cargo e-bike was used in the "mobile city lab" project of the Digital City initiative. This project ended with the realignment of Digital City Darmstadt GmbH towards administrative digitization.
By being handed over to the school board, the vehicle will remain in use and will support the digital infrastructure of Darmstadt schools in the future.
