Police warn against alcohol and drugs in road traffic during the fifth season (Carnival)
Carnival season is in full swing in southern Hesse. After the initial events, the so-called fifth season reaches its peak with Women's Carnival on Thursday, February 12th, and ends on Ash Wednesday, February 18th. To ensure the safety of all road users, the South Hesse police increased patrols and are making an urgent appeal to the common sense of those celebrating.
Police point out that even a blood alcohol level as low as 0.3 per mille can lead to criminal charges, for example, in the event of an accident or alcohol-related impairment. Anyone riding a bicycle or e-bike while heavily intoxicated also risks losing their driver's license. Driving under the influence of alcohol not only jeopardizes your license but, above all, your own health and the lives of others. Slowed reactions, altered perception, tunnel vision, and disinhibited behavior are incompatible with participating in road traffic.
Against this background, the police advise planning your journey home in advance and using public transport or a taxi. Alternatively, you should designate a sober driver among your friends or arrange for a family member or acquaintance to pick you up. It is also strongly advised against getting into a car with an intoxicated person.
Throughout the entire Carnival season, police in southern Hesse will be intensively monitoring compliance with alcohol and drug limits. Checks will take place not only at night and on main roads, but also during the day and on side streets and so-called rat runs. The aim is to prevent accidents and ensure everyone can celebrate safely.
