Concert on September 7th with folk songs and folk music in modern arrangements
Darmstadt. The chamber choir "onomatopoetikon" Bessunger Knabenschule on Sunday, September 7, 2025. Under the title "Save our Songs!", the ensemble will present folk songs and traditional melodies from around the world in contemporary arrangements.
Under the direction of Danilo Tepša and accompanied by a jazz trio, works by Cecilia McDowall , Bob Chilcott , and other composers will be performed. The program ranges from a rousing swing version of "The Hunter from the Palatinate" to an ethereal arrangement of the Japanese "Sakura," and includes playful reworkings of English and Italian classics. Well-known pieces such as "House of the Rising Sun" as a plaintive blues and "Scarborough Fair" in 5/4 time à la Dave Brubeck are also on the program.
The concert promises new perspectives on familiar things and sometimes even invites the audience to sway along to the rhythm.
