Hesse's Health Minister praises Maurer's work – New managing director takes over in times of change
A ceremony was held on Friday to officially mark the change of management at Darmstadt Hospital Clemens Maurer was bid farewell after almost 13 years at the helm Sven Axt assumed the position of managing director on December 1st

Hesse's Health Minister Diana Stolz expressly praised Maurer's long-standing service. She stated that he had shaped and led the Darmstadt Clinic with foresight for over twelve years. Under his leadership, modern and efficient structures developed, which are of central importance for the security of healthcare in the region. With regard to the planned merger with the Elisabethenstift, Stolz emphasized the importance of cooperation and networking to ensure the future viability of hospitals. She wished the new managing director, Sven Axt, every success in his upcoming task during a time of profound changes due to hospital reform.
The ceremony was attended by numerous guests from politics, the city, the hospital sector, associations, and health insurance companies. The large turnout underscored strong network within the Hessian and national hospital landscape.
City Treasurer and Head of Hospital Affairs André Schellenberg emphasized that Maurer had taken over the hospital during a difficult economic period and successfully stabilized it. For many years, the city of Darmstadt, unlike many other municipalities, had therefore not had to provide any financial subsidies. Schellenberg described the central new building masterpiece ," which had been completed on time and within budget despite the coronavirus pandemic. He also considered the planned holding company with the Agaplesion Elisabethenstift to be an expression of strategic foresight.
Regarding his successor, Schellenberg expressed his confidence: Sven Axt brings extensive experience from both private and public hospitals. The 39-year-old business administration graduate previously worked at Helios , and most recently as Head of Finance, Controlling and Taxes and Deputy Chief Financial Officer at the University Medical Center Mainz . Axt assumed his first management position at the age of 29.
Sven Axt himself emphasized that he was looking forward to further developing the hospital together with the medical director, Dr. Jörg Noetzel , and the nursing director, Michele Tarquinio, as part of a management team based on mutual respect. He sees the hospital as a well-positioned institution in an exciting phase of change.

In closing, Clemens Maurer addressed the guests and staff with personal words: The achievements of the people at the hospital deserved respect and gratitude. He wished the institution courage and confidence .
