Uniform guidelines are intended to accelerate the expansion of electromobility
The city of Darmstadt, a center of science and technology, has adopted new guidelines for expanding its public charging infrastructure. The city council aims to simplify the installation of charging stations and specifically promote electromobility.
Standardized procedure for providers
In the future, expansion will be based on a clearly structured and legally sound application process. The aim is to reduce administrative costs and expedite permitting.
The new regulations create transparent and fair conditions for private investors and operators who wish to install charging stations in public spaces. The allocation of locations is open to all providers.
Private operators bear responsibility
Once a special use permit has been granted, operators can independently install and operate charging infrastructure. The respective providers bear the costs for installation, operation, and maintenance themselves.
For users: Electric vehicles can use the designated parking spaces free of charge for up to three hours while charging. Additional costs depend on the respective provider.
Expansion as part of the climate protection concept
With the new guidelines, Darmstadt is implementing a key objective of its climate protection concept. A comprehensive charging infrastructure is considered an important prerequisite for the further expansion of electromobility.
The city levies a special usage fee for the use of public spaces in order to support the expansion of infrastructure and the transition to electric vehicles.
