Chopin Society presents top pianists with works from the early Romantic period
The Chopin Society Darmstadt, dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Fryderyk Chopin's music since 1970, is bringing one of today's leading pianists to Darmstadt: Dmitry Ablogin will perform on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the Orangerie (Bessunger Straße 44). The concert will focus on early Romantic music and feature compositions by Johann Nepomuk Hummel, John Field, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, and Fryderyk Chopin.
An evening full of musical discoveries
Dmitry Ablogin is one of the most outstanding pianists of his generation. The 36-year-old Russian won the prestigious International German Piano Award in 2021 and is a sought-after soloist on stages throughout Europe and North America. Despite his busy schedule, the Chopin Society was able to secure his participation in this special piano recital.
The concert program is dedicated to four composers who shaped the musical landscape of 19th-century Paris. The evening begins with an early work by Chopin, the Rondo à la Mazur, Op. 5 , followed by nocturnes by Chopin and John Field – the inventor of this popular musical form. A highlight of the program is the Piano Sonata, Op. 6, by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , which impresses with its innovative spirit. The concert concludes with the Sonata in F-sharp minor, Op. 8, by Johann Nepomuk Hummel , which Ablogin describes as "one of the greatest musical discoveries of recent years."
About the pianist Dmitry Ablogin
Dmitry Ablogin studied at the Gnessin Academy in Moscow and at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts . He has a particular passion for historical keyboard instruments, with which he enjoys worldwide success. Despite numerous concert tours and a steadily growing discography, Ablogin is deeply committed to nurturing young talent. Since the winter semester of 2024/2025, he has been Professor of Fortepiano at the Cologne University of Music .
