Atelier picture change in Darmstadt presents works between reality and surrealism
Under the title "Freedom", the Darmstadt artist Christel Funk her new exhibition in the studio change acrylic is shown , which deal with the dark sides of the present.
Christel Funk's works are not for tender minds. Her pictures address social and global crises- from war and climate change to laboratory and disaster scenarios to alienation, violence and escape. Surreal and symbolic elements encounter oppressive real motifs that often move between criticism of civilization and dark humor.
Art critic Roland Held describes Funk's style as far from classical realism: her work is permeated by grotesque, symbolism and depth of field, which "get under your skin and look behind the facade of things". The exhibition deliberately positions itself as a critical comment for the time, but beyond striking slogans - rather as an invitation to think about the world and the people in it.
