Demonstration and street festival under the motto "Never again silent - I live as I want!"
On Saturday, August 16, 2025, Darmstadt will once again send a strong message of diversity, acceptance, and the rights of the queer community with Christopher Street Day (CSD). Under the motto "Never silent again – I live as I want!", the City of Darmstadt supports the event and, together with a broad alliance, calls for people to speak out loudly for democracy, tolerance, and equality.
Planned events include a demonstration through the city center, a street festival with music, speeches, information booths, and activities by regional initiatives and associations. The demonstration starts at noon at Karolinenplatz. The street festival begins there at 2 p.m., followed by an after-party at 10:30 p.m.
Mayor Hanno Benz explains: “Especially in light of growing hostility towards LGBTQ+ people, as well as populist and extremist movements, it is more important than ever to protect the fundamental rights of all people and to stand together in solidarity. With the Christopher Street Day parade, we are sending a clear signal: Darmstadt stands for diversity, respect, and peaceful coexistence. There must be no place for hatred and exclusion. Let us work together to ensure that ‘Never silent again’ is not just a motto, but guides our daily actions.”

Christopher Street Day commemorates the uprising of queer minorities against police brutality on Christopher Street in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. In the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, protests against repeated violent police raids took place at the Stonewall Inn bar. Today, CSD demonstrations are held in almost every major German city – the largest in Cologne and Berlin – spread across various weekends between April and October.
