Demonstration and street festival under the motto “Never be quiet again – I love how I want!”
On Saturday, August 16, 2025, Darmstadt will once again send a strong message for diversity, acceptance, and the rights of the queer community with Christopher Street Day (CSD). Under the motto "Never silent again – I love how I want!", the Science City of Darmstadt supports the event and, together with a broad alliance, calls for a loud stand for democracy, tolerance, and equality.
Plans include a demonstration through the city center, a street festival with music, speeches, and information booths, as well as activities by regional initiatives and clubs. The demonstration starts at noon on Karolinenplatz. The street festival begins there at 2 p.m., followed by an after-show party at 10:30 p.m.
Mayor Hanno Benz explains: "Especially in light of growing anti-LGBTIQ* sentiment as well as populist and extremist movements, it is more important than ever to protect the fundamental rights of all people and to stand together in solidarity. With the Pride Parade, we are sending a clear message: Darmstadt stands for diversity, respect, and peaceful coexistence. There must be no room for hatred and exclusion. Let us work together to ensure that 'Never be silent again' doesn't just remain a motto, but determines our daily actions."

Christopher Street Day commemorates the uprising of queer minorities against police brutality on Christopher Street in New York City's Greenwich Village. In the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, protests against repeated violent police raids took place at the Stonewall Inn bar. Today, Pride demonstrations take place in almost every major German city—the largest in Cologne and Berlin—spread over various weekends between April and October.
