Choir conducting, organ playing and band training – a wide range of opportunities for young musicians
The Diocese of Mainz will launch new church music training courses on November 29, 2025, for the upcoming academic year. The program is aimed at music enthusiasts aged 13 and up who wish to further their education in various areas of church music – from choral conducting to popular music. Registration is open until September 30, 2025 .
Training with a regional focus
The training courses are organized by the Institute for Church Music in the Diocese of Mainz and offered locally – including in Mainz, Darmstadt, Gießen, and Bad Nauheim . Instruction is provided by regional cantors and external teachers. The tuition fee is €65 per month and includes individual lessons.
Wide range from organ to pop
The course offerings range from classical organ training and conducting children's, youth, and adult choirs to instruction in popular music . Band coaching, arranging, event technology , and vocal training are also on the program. Particularly practical is the basic choral conducting course , which has been offered as an introductory course without an entrance exam since 2024. Prerequisites include basic music reading skills (treble and bass clef), a minimum age of 13, and some initial musical experience, such as choral singing or piano playing.
Diocese of Limburg for the area of popular music . Practical content is taught here on six Saturdays a year – supplemented by individual instrumental lessons.
