Green space, community center and art trail shape the future of the district
Darmstadt. The Science City of Darmstadt invites residents of the Pallaswiesen and Mornewegviertel (PaMo) districts to the 7th Citizens' Dialogue "PaMo – Get Involved ." The event will take place on Monday, October 27, at 6:00 p.m. in St. Fidelis Church , Feldbergstraße 27.
The focus is on the design plans for three key projects within the framework of the "Social Cohesion" urban development funding program : the redesign of the "Im Tiefen See" green space , the enhancement of the area surrounding the community center on Kirschenallee , and the route along the former industrial railway tracks , which will be redesigned as an art trail. All projects are scheduled to be implemented or started in 2026 and will contribute to the sustainable enhancement of public space .
New green space as a meeting point in the district
"With the design of the 'Im Tiefen See' green space, we are creating a vibrant place that encourages encounters between young and old and offers space for recreation, play, and exercise," explains Mayor Barbara Akdeniz . The new facility is intended to become a central meeting point in the neighborhood and further enhance the quality of life there.
Renovation and upgrading of the community center
Regarding the second project, City Councilor Michael Kolmer explains: "The area surrounding the community center will be upgraded following its ongoing renovation and expansion. Many suggestions from past citizen dialogues will be incorporated." He further emphasized the importance of climate-resilient design with more green spaces and shade-providing trees to improve the neighborhood's microclimate.
Art trail along the former industrial tracks
The historic industrial railway tracks will also be given new meaning: an art trail featuring sculptures by local artists . In addition, climate-adapted trees will be planted and near-natural habitats will be created to promote biodiversity and the quality of life
At the 7th Citizens' Dialogue, there will be ample time for questions, feedback, and discussions .
"Participation is the key to a vibrant neighborhood – together we make PaMo strong," emphasizes Akdeniz. City Councilor Kolmer adds: "With these projects, we are investing in sustainable neighborhood development that strengthens social cohesion, contributes to climate protection, and noticeably improves the quality of life."
