A journey full of impressions and encounters in the South Tyrolean twin city
From July 7th to 11th, 2025, the town twinning between the South Hessian municipality and Kiens in South Tyrol all about living exchange: During a citizens' trip with around 40 participants – including Mayor Ralf Möller – the guests were able to gather unforgettable impressions that further deepened the connection between the two towns.
Starting in Merano and Mediterranean flair
The trip began on Tuesday with an excursion to Merano , where the group first visited the famous Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle . The expansive grounds, with their themed garden rooms and panoramic views, provided the perfect start to the week. Afterwards, the participants explored the town of Merano on their own, enjoying the southern flair in its narrow streets and cafés.
Culinary and scenic highlights
Wednesday offered several highlights: First on the agenda was a guided tour of the Three Peaks Dairy . Participants gained insights into traditional cheese production and were then able to sample regional specialties. This was followed by an excursion to one of South Tyrol's most famous natural landmarks – the view of the Three Peaks , a UNESCO World Heritage Site Lake Toblach and Lake Misurina also impressed with their natural beauty.
Relaxation at a wellness hotel
Thursday was free time. The comfortable wellness hotel offered numerous opportunities for relaxation – whether hiking in the surrounding area or exploring the picturesque landscape. Many used the day for conversation, relaxation, or spontaneous activities.
Farewell and Outlook
After a shared breakfast on Friday, the group began their journey home – with numerous memories and impressions in tow. Mayor Ralf Möller and the organizing team were delighted with the response: The trip had once again demonstrated how vibrant and valuable town twinning can be – not only for official cooperation, but above all in personal interaction.
