Over 2,400 participants save 66 tons of CO₂
The 2025 City Cycling campaign was a resounding success from the perspective of the science city of Darmstadt. From September 7th to 27th, more than 2,400 participants in 126 teams a total of approximately 400,000 kilometers . Compared to using a car, this resulted in 66 tons of CO₂ .
Climate Protection Officer Michael Kolmer expressed his satisfaction with the response:
“ The strong participation despite the minimal advertising due to budget constraints shows that the City Cycling campaign has established itself as a permanent fixture on the program. Cycling relieves traffic congestion, saves money, is good for your health, is fun, and keeps the air clean in our beautiful city. ”
Individual rankings and team successes
In the individual prize category, Toms Urdze from the Bertolt Brecht School took first place 3,109 kilometers Schär family from the "Grüne Darmstadt" team with 2,100 kilometers , and third place to Andreas Jackisch from the "Jack 'n' Son" team with 1,504 kilometers .
In the team competition, TU Darmstadt once again emerged victorious , securing first place 35,120 kilometers GSI/FAIR with 20,059 kilometers Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences team – fit for the future – took third place with 14,675 kilometers .
Award ceremony at the "Radschlag" bicycle workshop
The awards ceremony took place on December 9th at the Radschlag of TU Darmstadt on the Lichtwiese campus. All winning individuals and teams received certificates as well as prizes or vouchers for Darmstadt bicycle shops.
Kolmer expressed particular gratitude to the dedicated local volunteers:
“ My special thanks go to Radschlag, who not only opened their workshop for us, but also provide free support to all cycling enthusiasts throughout the year. ”
