Citizens can contribute ideas and observations on climate protection.
Griesheim. The Darmstadt-Dieburg district a comprehensive climate adaptation concept for the town of Griesheim to be completed by 2026. The aim is to prepare the town as effectively as possible for the consequences of climate change – such as heavy rainfall, storms, droughts, and increasing heat .
The concept aims to define concrete short-, medium-, and long-term measures for the protection of the population and the environment. This will create a roadmap for a climate-adapted Griesheim that simultaneously safeguards quality of life and preserves the region's natural resources.
Online participation for Griesheim citizens
To incorporate the experiences and knowledge of the population, the district offers an online participation platform . Citizens can their observations and suggestions regarding climate change, heat islands, or heavy rainfall events on an interactive map.
The submissions will be reviewed by specialist planners from the district and – where possible – integrated into the climate adaptation concept. The entries will also be made available municipalities in the district

Why climate adaptation is important
The term climate adaptation describes measures that are necessary to maintain a high quality of life despite the consequences of climate change. These include, for example:
- Shading of public spaces to reduce heat stress.
- Storing rainwater to better withstand periods of drought.
Griesheim, in particular, is especially affected by heat location in the Upper Rhine Graben . The sandy soil is poor at retaining rainwater – another reason why local adaptation strategies are urgently needed.
