Science City presents results of the climate adaptation plan in the State Archives
The science city of Darmstadt will present its new climate adaptation plan on Tuesday, April 29, and invites all interested parties to the closing event at the Hessian State Archives on Karolinenplatz from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. In addition to the presentation of key findings, guests can expect a comprehensive climate action market with information booths and practical tips.
“Visitors can expect a diverse program including a keynote address, a panel discussion, and a market with numerous offerings related to climate adaptation,” explains Climate Protection Officer Michael Kolmer. The new plan focuses on 20 key measures for adapting to the consequences of climate change. Topics such as the sponge city principle, nature-based solutions, and climate-adapted planning and construction are central to the plan.
The plan is based on a comprehensive risk analysis conducted in cooperation with the German Meteorological Service and external consulting firms. This analysis identifies, among other things, heat hotspots and flood risks during heavy rainfall within the city. Ideas from the public were also collected in six workshops, reviewed, and some were incorporated into the plan.
A highlight of the event is the inaugural Climate Action Market with twelve information booths. Visitors can receive advice on topics such as promoting urban green spaces, biodiversity, biochar, rainwater management, and climate-adapted construction. Participating organizations include BUND (Friends of the Earth Germany), EAD (Energy Agency for Environmental Protection), Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Büro Dahlem, and numerous city departments.
