Griesheim Climate Action Day invites young and old to participate
On Saturday, September 13, 2025, the city of Griesheim invites residents to participate in interactive walks through the Inner City North Climate Quarter as part of its Climate Action Day . The goal is to gather wishes, ideas, and needs for the neighborhood together with its citizens. The results will be incorporated into concrete measures, some of which will be permanent, others temporary.
Even children as young as six can get creative during their own walk with the Blue Box. Whether marking light and shadow with chalk, redesigning a playground, or planning a child-friendly street – the young participants playfully contribute to a climate-adapted neighborhood.
Registration is possible online at griesheim-gestalten.de , but spontaneous participants are also welcome. Residents of the city center-north climate district are especially encouraged to contribute their ideas.
Background: Climate Quarter Inner City North
The "Climate Quarter" project was launched by the Hessian Ministry for the Environment in cooperation with LEA Hessen. Its aim is to improve the energy and environmental performance of urban districts and to safeguard the quality of life. Griesheim's northern city center is one of 15 selected areas in Hesse that will be supported over the next three years on their path to greater climate protection and better climate adaptation.
The district encompasses the area between Sandgasse, Friedrich-Ebert-Straße, Wilhelm-Leuschner-Straße, and Schöneweibergasse. Extensive paving, limited green spaces, and dense development currently lead to excessive heat buildup in the summer. This project aims to develop solutions for sustainably improving living conditions.
