The German-Israeli Society of Darmstadt calls for remembrance and solidarity on November 9th.
Darmstadt. On Sunday, November 9, 2025 , the German-Israeli Society (DIG) Darmstadt to a at 5:30 p.m. in Luisenplatz . The occasion is the remembrance of the November Pogroms of 1938 , which reached their horrific climax on the night of November 9-10.
synagogues were burned down, Jewish businesses destroyed , and thousands of Jews were mistreated, arrested, or murdered throughout Germany . With this rally, the German-Israeli Society (DIG) in Darmstadt aims to send a message of remembrance and solidarity – against antisemitism, hatred, and exclusion .
Mayor Hanno Benz, representing the City of Darmstadt, will address the participants and emphasize the importance of remembrance for community life in the city. "Antisemitism has no place in Darmstadt," Benz stated.
Alongside him, Anika Schmütz , a board member of the German-Israeli Society (DIG) in Darmstadt, will speak. She emphasizes: “We do not only want to commemorate the crimes of the Nazi era, but also keep the memory alive by confronting the contemporary manifestations of antisemitism and hostility towards Israel. If we look away or remain silent, remembrance loses its meaning – it must not be an empty ritual.”
The commemoration on November 9th is also a commitment to protecting Jewish life in Darmstadt and in Germany. Remembrance means responsibility – in everyday life, in schools, in the media, and in politics, according to the organizers.
The DIG Darmstadt calls on all citizens to participate in the rally and visibly stand with the Jewish community
