Which concept is more convincing?
Test drives with detailed consultation are possible at the HEDTKE car dealership
For our latest car test, we had two models from the Lynk & Co brand at our disposal – a brand we honestly hadn't heard much about before. No wonder, since it's only been around since October 2016. But it impressively demonstrates the innovative power and speed of Chinese automakers.
HEDTKE is a Lynk & Co dealer from the very beginning, representing one of the most promising sales partnerships in Germany for 2025. The Weiterstadt-based car dealership already has many years of successful experience in workshop service and used car sales for Lynk & Co and has now added the final piece to the puzzle: the sale of new cars from this innovative brand.
First impression and design

Both vehicles feature a striking, modern design with Scandinavian influences – no wonder, since Lynk & Co belongs to Geely Sweden Holdings AB, the European arm of Geely Holding (which also includes Volvo). The offices are located in Gothenburg, in the technology and innovation hub of Lindholmen. But back to the models:
The 01, a plug-in hybrid SUV, appears more muscular and robust, while the all-electric 02, with its flowing coupé silhouette and sporty accents, emphasizes dynamism. Both vehicles feature high-quality materials, but the 02 takes it a step further: its interior feels more streamlined and modern, whereas the 01 prioritizes comfort. In the latter, you feel almost at home – comfortable, relaxed, simply at ease. The 02, on the other hand, exudes a sporty atmosphere. Its striking LED headlights offer animated welcome and farewell sequences, and a 3D LED light strip creates a futuristic ambiance in the interior. All materials in both models are high-quality, sustainable, and impeccably crafted. Both models also share a 15.4-inch HD display in the center of the cockpit, providing intuitive access to all essential functions.

Driver assistance systems – a blessing and a curse
First things first: Both cars are truly excellent products with hardly any room for complaint. However, to fully enjoy the driving experience, all driver assistance systems should be switched off. Hardly a second goes by without a warning about something: too fast, following too closely, too far to the left, too far to the right, too tired… This raises the question of whether all these warnings contribute to distraction and ultimately compromise safety rather than enhance it (knowing that this is the implementation of an EU regulation that has been in effect for all new vehicles since June 2024). So, for the test, we switched off all the driver assistance systems – to really experience the cars. Ultimately, however, everyone should decide for themselves which features they consider important.
Powertrain and driving characteristics
The Lynk & Co 01 PHEV combines a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with an electric motor, offering a system output of around 261 hp. In practice, this translates to impressive acceleration, especially in city traffic, as we experienced firsthand on our test drive from Darmstadt via Wiesbaden to Jagdschloss Platte. The all-electric range of approximately 75 kilometers is sufficient for everyday use, but on longer journeys, the combustion engine proves to be a valuable asset. While the 01 does produce a bit of a drone at times, overall it impresses with a pleasant, composed, yet agile driving experience – even uphill to the Jagdschloss, situated at an altitude of 400 meters.
The O2 EV takes a different approach: its all-electric drive delivers approximately 218 hp and offers a range of around 450 kilometers (WLTP). Thanks to its low center of gravity, the O2 feels more planted on the road and is more agile in corners than the heavier O1. The electric crossover particularly shines in city traffic with its smooth ride and direct responsiveness. In Wiesbaden – where the speed limit is almost always 40 km/h – we were able to easily keep up with traffic and enjoy the driving experience. The interplay between recuperation and braking also works seamlessly.
Comfort and everyday usability
In terms of space, the 01 beats the 02: a higher seating position, more headroom, and a spacious trunk make it the better choice for families and frequent drivers. The 02 is more compact and has a sportier design – the lower seating position might be less comfortable for some on long journeys. Both vehicles, however, offer extensive standard equipment, including the aforementioned large touchscreen, digital instruments, and an innovative sharing system. An amusing detail is the in-car "selfie" camera – no joke: fun selfies of all occupants can be taken and saved from the cockpit.
Charging infrastructure and consumption
This highlights the major difference between the two concepts. The O1 PHEV can be charged at a wall socket, but requires the combustion engine for longer journeys. According to the manufacturer, its fuel consumption in hybrid mode is approximately 1.5 liters per 100 kilometers, plus electricity. The O2 EV, on the other hand, is purely electric and relies on a wallbox or public charging infrastructure. Thanks to its 100 kW fast-charging capability, it can be charged to 80% in about 30 minutes.
Our tests also yielded positive results: The hybrid consumed around 2 liters per 100 km, while the all-electric O2 required approximately 18 kWh per 100 km – although we did test the top speed several times. The O1 hybrid reached 200 km/h, while the all-electric O2 is electronically limited to 180 km/h. Overall, both vehicles remain pleasingly economical with operating costs well below €10 per 100 kilometers. Both models become even more enjoyable with a home wallbox.
Conclusion
The Lynk & Co 01 is the better choice for those who don't want to commit to a fully electric vehicle and need more space. It combines the best of both worlds and offers a high level of travel comfort. The 02 EV, on the other hand, is the more modern, dynamic approach – emission-free, efficient, and with a practical range for everyday use. For those with the necessary charging infrastructure, it's a future-proof alternative. But which model is more compelling? Ultimately, it depends on individual needs: pragmatism or pure electric mobility? The best way to find out is to see for yourself.
