Defects in curbs, gutters and sidewalks in the Geinsheimer Straße/Westring area – work is expected to last until Christmas
Roadworks have resumed in the town of Riedstadt-Leeheim. In the area of the Geinsheimer Straße/Westring intersection, and along Westring up to the Erfurter Straße junction, previously completed work on curbs, gutters, and sidewalks needs to be touched up. The construction company carrying out the work will bear the costs of these additional repairs.
The repairs are part of the extensive renovation of the road and sewer system in the village of Leeheim. Defects were discovered during the previous work and now need to be rectified.
Defective foundation and incorrectly laid paving
According to the city, the foundation for the curbs and street gutters is not sufficiently load-bearing. Furthermore, the paving stones on the sidewalks were not laid professionally.
Therefore, the affected curbs, gutters, and paved areas, including the underlying concrete, must be removed. A new foundation will then be constructed, upon which the structural elements and sidewalk surfaces will be rebuilt.
The improvements concern the area at the edge of town in the direction of Geinsheim.
Construction work in five phases
In order to maintain through traffic during the renovation and to keep restrictions for pedestrians to a minimum, the work was divided into five construction phases.
Work began at the southeast corner of the intersection of Erfurter Straße and Westring. From there, construction workers are working their way towards Geinsheimer Straße. The affected areas around the Geinsheimer Straße/Westring intersection will then be renovated counter-clockwise.
In construction phases four and five, the central island in the intersection area will also be renewed. During this phase, one half of the traffic island, which is also affected, will be worked on at a time.
Partial road closures and traffic light control
During the construction work, the road will be partially closed in sections. Through traffic should generally remain possible.
As the renovation progresses, temporary traffic lights will also be required at times to guide traffic past the work sites.
During the work on the central island in construction phases four and five, traffic will be guided alternately past the respective construction site.
Road users and pedestrians should therefore expect restrictions in the Geinsheimer Straße/Westring area in the coming weeks.
Completion planned before Christmas
According to current plans, the remedial work should be completed before the Christmas holidays.
The reconstruction of the kerbs, gutters and sidewalks is intended to permanently eliminate the identified construction defects.
