E-cigarettes, alcohol, nitrous oxide and cannabis in focus – prevention through education and exchange
Vaping, alcohol, nitrous oxide, and marijuana: The use of psychoactive substances among young people continues to rise. To raise awareness about current trends, risks, and prevention options, several specialist agencies and institutions are hosting a public Friday, June 13, 2025 , from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Caritas Addiction Support Center in Darmstadt (Wilhelm-Glässing-Straße 15–17). The event is aimed at professionals, parents, teachers, multipliers, and anyone interested.
The format is supported by the city of Darmstadt and the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg.
Taking young people seriously – strengthening responsibility
“Prevention means giving young people spaces where they can talk openly about consumption, risks, and responsibility,” explains Mayor Barbara Akdeniz . She emphasizes how important sound knowledge is for adults in order to be able to properly support young people.
Christel Sprößler also points to the importance of informed caregivers: "Given the lack of nationwide regulations, for example on the subject of nitrous oxide, informed parents and professionals are crucial to identify risks early and counteract them."
